What's your school's grade? The state Department of Education on Wednesday unveiled its first round of letter grades for about 1,300 public schools statewide. The grades are linked mostly to how elementary, middle and high school students did on key tests.

About 60% of Louisiana Schools received failing grades.

  Fire Prevention Week: 9-15, 2011

2011 Fire prevention Week

Sparky® wants you to be ahead of the fire safety game! Help him spread the word about "It's Fire Prevention Week. Protect your Family from Fire!" Use the materials in this section to learn how to keep your home fire safe!

  • Fill out the family's fire safety checklist. Both adults and kids have a role to play in your home's fire safety.
  • Download a calendar tearsheet, and put it in an important place in your home. Remember to have a grown-up test your smoke alarms once a month. Tear off the correct month when the test is finished!
  • You and your family should develop and practice a home fire escape plan. Download our escape plan grid and practice your escape at least twice a year! More information about home escape planning.
  • Pictorials are a fun reminder to kids about the importance of working smoke alarms and having a home escape plan. Print out the boy and girl pictorials and hang on the fridge - you can even laminate and make into a placemat!
